Career History

Mike graduated with a 1st Class degree from Leeds Metropolitan University and has since worked in a variety of environments, including much in the highly demanding environment of Elite Sport where optimum injury recovery really matters.

Mike’s employment history includes full-time employment in the NHS, Nottingham Forest Football Club, The English Institute of Sport (British Swimming)  Notts County Cricket Club and he now co-owns Advance Physiotherapy.

Mike has been the Lead Physiotherapist for the Great Britain Speed Skating team in excess of 6 years now, and this culminated in him supporting these athletes at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. This work does take him away from Advance Physiotherapy for short periods during the winter season when he travels worldwide with the GB short track team to assist at competitions. However the need to stay up-to-date with all the latest treatments for these elite athletes benefits his own patients significantly and other therapists within the clinic.

Mike completed a Masters degree from Nottingham University in 2010 which had a strong emphasis on making the correct diagnosis as quickly as possible. This enables the correct treatment techniques to be applied to the correct area of the body, and ultimately to achieve the best outcomes for patients as quickly as possible. Mike strongly believes that correct diagnosis is essential to managing patients and building individually tailored rehabilitation programmes.

Mike has post graduate training in manual therapy including manipulative skills often associated with Osteopaths and Chiropracters. He is also a certified Kinesio Tape practitioner having completed the training by Kinesio UK and has gained experience in using the product for several years now.
