Career History

Sheila graduated from the Nottingham School of Physiotherapy and worked full-time in the NHS at The Nottingham City Hospital on a rotation of all aspects of Physiotherapy. Sheila then specialised in Paediatrics, looking after children with Cystic Fibrosis, Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Neonatal unit, burns and general surgery.

In 1980 she left the NHS to have her children, Emma and Jamie, and worked on a part time basis for the Nottinghamshire County Council Leisure Services Department initially looking after the County Swim Squad before progressing to Basket Ball, Netball, Hockey, Tennis, Rowing, Canoeing, and Karate/Judo.

It was during that time that Sheila first began Private Practice work from her home.

In 1985 Sheila was asked to join the ranks of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club on a full time basis looking after the team and be available at all times including pre-season tours.

During this time she continued to expand the Private work form the Cricket Ground.

Her work has always included people from all walks of life and has continued as a general musculo-skeletal clinic.

Sheila’s involvement with cricket has expanded her knowledge considerably, apart from being “first line casualty officer” on match days for the team and opposition, Sheila was involved in the setting up of pre and post season fitness testing, off season  and pre-season training programmes, correct nutrition, orthotics etc.

During international matches Sheila worked alongside the team of doctors for the players and crowd safety. She also had the privilege to work with the England and Australian cricket teams on several occasions and worked with the playing staff, between physiotherapists, for Notts County and Mansfield Town Football Clubs.

Advance Physiotherapy began in April 2009 when Mike and Sheila decided to go it alone and continue the clinic’s life at 24 Musters Road so we could still cover the same demographic area and bring their services to anyone who requires our help to maintain or improve their wellbeing.
